History

Our inn was probably mentioned already in 1085 with founding of the monastery Comburg as a "tavern in the upper village."
The "ox" acquired special significance as an inn and restaurant, as it lays on the ancient trade route from Nuremberg to Stuttgart to Prague. Since the Middle Ages, the then owner Ochsenwirt rendered services to the infamous "Cröffelbach Steige." A few additional OX where always needed to pull the heavily loaded carts up the steep hill. Even the riding mail carriers and a coaching change for the prinz of Thurn and Taxis were represented at the "ox".
In 1803, the family owned "ox" was for the first time extended considerably. The original building is under historical protection and underwent a significant renovation from the ground up in 1985. In 1994, the 3-star conference hotel was build, and at the same time we modernized all rooms at the inn to its present stage.
